Award-winning journalist, author and event host
I specialise in housing and architecture, travel, place and cities with a focus on the possibilities of radical urban planning. My journalism has appeared in The Guardian, The Observer, The Times and Sunday Times, The House, Art UK and more. I write a weekly column for The Times, appearing in the Times 2 and Scotland sections.
I am currently working on my second book, a narrative non-fiction exploration of future-proof architecture. The People are the City: Dispatches from the Urban Future, will be published by Headline Press in 2026. Read more here.
In 2022 I was named Travel Writer of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards. The following year I was named runner-up for Scoop of the Year for my investigations into abuse at high-end restaurant kitchens. In 2024 I came runner-up in the Columnist of the Year category.
I'm also an experienced broadcaster, having presented for ITV's This Morning and appeared as a guest on the BBC shows Countryfile and Debate Night. In my work as a commentator and chair for radio, TV and live events I've worked with BBC Scotland, Glasgow's Aye Write book festival and the Boswell book festival.
I am represented by Sophie Lambert of C&W Agency.
